TEMPORSPATION 19-C: SKELLIG PENUMBRA

Taking its name from the versatile word for a number of concepts related to shadows, most notably the portion of an eclipse where the body being observed is partly in shadow, on the border between visible and not, on the periphery of perception, Skellig Penumbra is a formidable stalwart in the northern reaches of Silva's temperate zones. Spending equal parts of the year nearly as tropical as its neighbor Skellig Perihelion and then as boreal as if it were situated in Mare Noctula, its climate is often considered temperamental. During its summers, and the amalgam of weather symptoms that could be approximated as being "spring" or "fall", sparring currents shroud the island in impenetrable fog.
Its primary attraction, if it could be called that, is the even more obscure and mysterious Castle Penumbra, and on one of the smaller skellige(?) that surround it, the accompanying Outpost Clarion.
Most of the information about the skellig and castle comes in the form of data relayed by their inhabitants, as it is very difficult to sail to the island both due to unfavorable weather conditions and due to the strict boundaries imposed by (the?) Clarion. Arrival by flight is another manner, but even that is said to be typically not worth doing unless one plans to stay for a long period of time, as the costs are even more ludicrous than those of a normal flight.

Castle Penumbra, the main attraction of the eponymous island. Buried within craggy cliffs and a thick blanket of fog, this colossal fortress - small compared to its siblings! - is constructed atop the highest peak on the isle.

One of the construction plans reportedly proposed the destruction of a significant vertical portion of this peak in order to provide the flat surface area that would be needed to construct the fortress. The idea was rejected, and instead, the castle was built partly around the peak.

This new design was complete with spiralling staircases and great spindly limbs to both hold it up and reach towards the sky as the clutching fingers of some witch of the earth, or a dead spider.

Although they are not visible except in very close proximity to the castle, or on the rare occasion that the fog lifts, Penumbra is host to a number of beautiful feats of architecture, and of art in more tangential forms as well. One particularly lovely example is the stained glass windows, many of which were forged on the island itself, meant to replicate some of its rarest and most memorable sights.

There are also many paintings, depicting shadowy figures whose identities are unknown. It is thought that some represent the False Sovereign's ancestors, or perhaps the deities. It is possible they are meant to be some amalgam of the two.
